The Foundry Doctrine Statement

Covenant theology is about our relationship with God.

A covenant is a formal relationship.
Covenant theology helps us better appreciate how God relates to us. Walking with the Lord would be very difficult if He were not clear about what our relationship with Him is like. If we had to guess about things such as how God feels about us, whether He accepts us, how He accepts us, and the best ways to pursue Him, then we would frequently feel uncertain about our standing with Him.
Covenant theology affirms that God clearly explains what our relationship with Him is supposed to be like. Holy Scripture is God’s written, clear revelation of how we can have a right relationship with Him. Because a covenant is a formal relationship, God gives us certainty about our relationship with Him as He commits to us in that fixed bond.

Governance

Church leadership encompasses the roles that Christ has established to govern the visible church and the qualifications for those offices.

The Foundry Church government acknowledges that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, and He rules His Church by the office-bearers, the elders.
The Foundry Church government emphasizes first of the local church, i.e. the gathering of God’s people in the community where the Holy Spirit works faith through the preaching and teaching of His truth.
The Foundry Church government is elder-centered church government.
1 Timothy 5:17 speaks of two kinds of elders (known to us as the ‘minister’ and the ‘elder’), but the one does not have more authority than the other.
1 Timothy 5:17

17 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.

God doesn’t ask for a fluent speaker, a good reader, a university degree. All God asks for is men who are faithful to Him, who love Him, His Church and His work.
Christ doesn’t intend for his church to borrow its structures from the business world, or from the world whatsoever.

Christ is The One Head of The Church

Ephesians 1:19-23

19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Christ is The One With "All Authority"

Matthew 28:18

18 And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."

Christ is The One Who Builds His Church

Matthew 16:18

18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Christ is The Church's One Foundation

1 Corinthians 3:11

11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Christ is The Cornerstone

Ephesians 2:20

20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

He is The One Chief Shepherd

1 Peter 5:4

4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

One way of acknowledging and preserving and honoring Jesus’ unique and exclusive place as “head of the church” is that both the pastors and the people sense and respect the limits of their authority — first under Christ, and second in relation to each other.
